GATE Life Sciences (XL)

Purpose & Authority

Jointly conducted by the IITs and IISc Bangalore on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB) for:

• Admission to postgraduate programs in Life Sciences and interdisciplinary fields.
• Direct PhD admissions in top tier research institutes.
• Recruitment in research organizations and PSUs.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following academic standards:

• Degree: B.Sc / B.Tech / B.E / M.Sc in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related disciplines.
• Status: Final-year undergraduate or postgraduate students are eligible to appear.
• Age Limit: There is no age limit to appear for the GATE examination.

Exam Pattern & Structure

Question Types

Mix of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) & Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.

Duration & Marks

The total duration of the exam is 3 hours carrying a total of 100 Marks.

Mode: Computer Based Test (CBT)
